LETTER Stiftung
was established in 1993 under civil law as a non-profit foundation dedicated to the promotion of art and culture
operates primarily as a place of research and has its own library
works together with museums, research institutions and universities enables prospective art historians to gain professional experience whist still studying researches and documents otherwise little known artists and art history phenomena concentrates on the following fields of research in German speaking countries:
- 19th and early 20th century sculpture
- small-scale relief (medals and plaques)
- graphic art around 1900
publishes own and external research in its collection LETTER Schriften (publications) collects printed graphics portfolios from 1875 to 1930 and includes sculpture up to around 1930 documents its collections in databases and makes them accessible for further research makes its artworks available to the public for exhibitions or long-term loan awards the August Hoff Scholarship for Research in the History of Art and the Ludwig Gies Prize for Small-scale Sculpture is in charge of the former Hildebrand Foundation and documents the work of Adolf von Hildebrand maintains a non-profit art printing works for original graphics in Münsterland is a member of the Bundesverband Deutscher Stiftungen, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) and the Deutscher Verein für Kunstwissenschaft (German Association of Aesthetics)
